Green Tourism
Protecting our natural environment and enhancing it for local wildlife is particularly important to us here at Ardoch Lodge. Our site is a real haven for trees, plants and wildlife, making it a truly special place to be.
We are delighted to be recognised as a leading green tourism organisation and have recently achieved silver standard under the Green Tourism Business Scheme. This organisation was established back in 1997, with its certification scheme recognising responsible site management and good environmental practices. They aim to reduce the environmental impact of all businesses in the UK.
Over the years, we have planted many trees and plants to provide much-needed habitats for birds, butterflies, bees and other wildlife. For example, we leave piles of tree thinnings around the site to house wildlife.
We are also committed to reducing our global environment impact, and so guests will find recycling facilities, low energy bulbs, and information on locally produced food. As well as plenty of walks from the door, we are adjacent to a fantastic cycle path - so, why not leave the car behind and hire some bikes for the day?!
You can contact Wheels Cycling Centre on 01877 331100. Local bus service details are available in our 'Walkers & Cyclists' guide or from Traveline Scotland on 08712 002233.
Local Wildlife
Our list of resident and visiting birds has grown considerably over the years, with buzzards, ravens, jays and great spotted woodpeckers joining the list. Red squirrels are regular visitors to the bird tables, and red & roe deer often wander through the grounds. We occasionally see pine martens too!
